But what will the boss say to you?

What are you going to be for halloween? I'm going to be a dead gay porn star! There'll be a fake bloody penis poking through my head and everything!

To get into the spirit of things, here's a list of 10 horror/punk albums of varying degrees of strangeness. And here's my favorite punk Halloween track.

Sooooooooooooooo let's get into it! The first show is the continuation of Toxic Thursdays. If you like punk in Broward get out there and represent.

Thursday, October 29th, 2009
Pulp Live - To Be Hated, Installing Chaos, The Gutter Queens
10pm, $4, 18 and up

Here's a neat one: The Night of Living Crackheads! Best Halloween costume gets $100. My dickface is a shoe-in, so don't even try to compete...

Friday, October 30th, 2009
Churchill's Pub - Riot Agents, Big City Bombers, Enough, Asspiss, Brain Damage, Goodbye Pluto, Astronaut, Live Suicide, Los Imigrantes, Mixed Breed, Plague
9pm, $5, 18 and up

The Goddamn Gallows will raise the dead on Halloween day, so come on down have some "liquid candy." F is playing and they always have a good show (and are one of the original punk bands of south florida!) so go check 'em out.

Saturday, October 31st, 2009
Churchill's Pub - The Goddamn Gallows, Viva Le Vox, Jolly Badfellow, 1%, F, 3$Mess
8pm, ?, 18 and up

Look for a bunch of great shows next month including The Panix's record release, hardcore heroes Batallion of Saints, and moremoremore!

diy, memorials, blues/punk and the early bird special

I always like the DIY-style anarcho-punk alternative-culture shows. These are people who have a general disdain for American Apparel and designer jeans, venti mocha lattes and greedy middle men. If I didn't stick out like a sore thumb i'd try to go more often. When you're a janitor for The Eye Of Sauron you don't attend many anarchist book club meetings. I kind of imagine them like sunday school... Basically i'd attend in order to question everyone's view and everyone just thinks i'm trolling them.

Wednesday, October 21
The Firefly (219 NE 20th St, Miami, FL) - From the Depths, Mysterious Rabbit Puppet Army, Merkit
6:30pm, $5, all ages

I almost forgot Toxic Thursdays! The continuation of your Thursday punk night in Fort Lauderdale. Still very few shows in Broward so let's keep the momentum going.

Thursday, October 22, 2009
Pulp Live - Jolly Badfellow, The Livvers, The Ugly Harts
10pm, $4, 18 and up

As you can read in this flyer, this show is in part a memorial to Giovanni of Dromdead, a Venezuelan hardcore group. A bunch of them were attacked on the streets and one died from his injuries. The kid was only 21. It's disturbing that a kid like that dies and Bernard Madoff lives. But the world ain't fair, yadda yadda, so come out and slam in the pit and celebrate life.

Friday, October 23
Churchill's Pub - Fortitude, Nobodys Hero, Unit Six, To Be Hated, Enough, M66, Pool Party
9pm, $5, ?

Poprox - Riot Agents, Mad Martigan, Boy Prostitute, Los Imigrantes, Live Suicide
maybe 9pm?, $5, probably 18+ or 21+

This isn't strictly punk but it's good muzak. Scott makes some great 1-man blues and Viva Le Vox is a sort of "southern punk"... I hesitate to label it any further. Kinda far, but I don't think Scott is coming down to Churchill's again this year :(

Saturday, October 24
Rack'em Billiards - Scott H. Biram, Viva Le Vox
9:30pm, ?, ?

For all you kids with nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon there's a nice wholesome free all-ages show at 2pm in Ftl. They've got some decent records too, if you're into that kinda thing. If you get sushi in this plaza make sure it's from the small japanese market and not the crappy giant sushi house next door.

Sunday, October 25
Radio-Active Records - To Be Hated, Break On Through, The Actuaries
2pm, free, all ages

tons of tunes to titillate tumultuous times

*edit* I just noticed this post looked like last week... updated post time. This post is for the week of October 12th, 2009.
*edit* added a last minute Toxic Thursdays show for Thursday, October 15, 2009 with lots of bands @ Pulp Live

Another jam-packed week of punk in SoFl. There's shows in Miami, Ft. Laud, West Palm and Lake Worth so no matter where you are you don't have an excuse to stay home.

Thursday's a three-fer: Teenage Bottlerocket & Cobra Skulls @ Respectables, Murder Junkies @ Churchill's and Stuck Backwards at Pulp Live. If I do venture out this week it'll be for the Murder Junkies. Or Stuck Backwards, because it isn't in Miami.

Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Pulp Live - Stuck Backwards, Break On Through, Here's To Nathan, Guilty Fingers
10pm, $4, 18 and up

Respectable Street - Teenage Bottlerocket, Cobra Skulls, The Crumbs, The Ridicules
7pm, $10, all ages

Churchill's Pub - Murder Junkies, To Be Hated, Murderous Rampage, Maruta, D.A.G., The 1%, Social Fucks
probably 9pm, $12, 18 and up

Friday is a Palm Beach day, with shows at Propaganda and Respectables.

Friday, October 16th, 2009
Respectable Street - Viva Le Vox, Black Weather Shamen
9pm, ?, ?

Propaganda - Jason and the Punknecks, To Be Hated, Installing Chaos, Angry Pudding
9pm, $5, 21 and up

On Saturday a more hillbilly/country punk show comes out at Poor House. I heard Hawg Jowls and the Bacon Fats the other day and they're really quite good at old-school country covers (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, etc).

Saturday, October 17th, 2009
Poor House - Jason and the Punknecks, Viva Le Vox, Hawg Jowls and the Bacon Fats
10pm, free, 21 and up

And Sunday is a really interesting show: standard 3-band set of acts, plus one for Punk Karaoke. The idea is that they (The Sick Boys) will have covers of over 20 songs. You sign up to be MC for one or more of them. The result is madness or genius, or both. Lots of old-school punk classics, so if you can sing every verse to every 1970's or 1980's top-o-the-punk-pops tune you'll want to be here.

Sunday, October 18th, 2009
Churchill's Pub - The Sick Boys, Brain Damage, Badass, Mehkago NT
8pm, $5, 18 and up

a flurry of fresh fodder for fascinated freaks to flog

This update brought to you by People Who Stay Up Too Late Watching Movies And Getting Fat. Don't do today what you can put off 'til tomorrow!

This Thursday is the continuation of Toxic Thursdays @ PULP Live! in Fort Laudamurderdale (yes, some people actually call it that). To Be Hated and Tim of The Ruins have gotten together to form Bermuda Triangle Productions, and they've brought together Jolly Badfellow, Tonight We Kill and The Actuaries for this week (on short notice!). Remember, at $4 cover and $2 pbr's it's pretty inexpensive, and the Broward location will save gas money too.

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
PULP Live - Jolly Badfellow, Tonight We Kill, The Actuaries
10pm, $4, 18 and up

Mark Pollack's last big hurrah for a while: Rock VS Mark. The man who has brought down a decent chunk of the music you've enjoyed at local dives and cinemas is moving to the Far East to educate. This Friday at Churchill's Mark presents some talented local boys playing the best tunes from talented not-local boys, particularly those of the hardcore persuasion from the 1980's midwest punk scene. The Replacements, Naked Raygun, Negative Approach, and Husker Du squeezed like so much juice into your ear-cups for the small price of $6 and your time. If you see him, thank him and wish him good luck.

There's some very exciting shows set for next week, and who knows if there'll be more coming sooner so stay 'tuned'. (That kind of annoys me. We don't use TV sets that you have to mess with the reception due to RF interference, especially since all TV is mandated to be digital now. There is no such thing as 'tuning' anymore, aside from the radio and when was the last time you 'tuned in' a radio station? You just go to the number or hit your pre-set button. I'm the only person in the country with a clock radio that requires manually fiddling 1 millimeter at a time to find NPR)
